Dr Yong Lok Sze graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) from Royal Free & University College London Medical School, United Kingdom. She was awarded distinction in medical sciences for her achievements in her undergraduate studies.
She returned to Singapore and underwent training in various medical specialties including General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics Medicine and Geriatric Medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and National University Hospital. After which she spent three years in various hospitals as a trainee in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. She was trained in Adult Trauma Life Support, Adult Cardiovascular Life Support, airway management and various anaesthesia and intensive care subspecialties including pain medicine, paediatrics, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery and surgical intensive care.
Dr Yong joined private practice as a General Practitioner in 2010. She has since worked for two of the largest medical groups in Singapore as well as in South East Asia. With her keen interests in family medicine, she successfully acquired Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine awarded by National University Singapore. Her years of clinical experience in family medicine led to accreditation by the Family Physician Accreditation Board Singapore as Family Physician. She is also a member of the College of Family Physician Singapore. Her special interests include chronic disease management, sexual health, women’s health, aesthetic and preventive medicine. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, Hokkien and Cantonese.
As a strong believer in preventive medicine, she actively gives health promotion talks related to primary and secondary prevention of diseases and women’s health in the community. Her proactive approach to acquire updated advances in medicine and upgrading her skills as a physician has benefited her patients in many ways. She has completed the competency courses in aesthetic procedures such as Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels, IPL for hair removal and use of lasers for skin rejuvenation by Dermatological Society of Singapore and Aesthetic Dermatology Educational Group. Despite her experiences in aesthetic dermatology, she continues to upgrade her aesthetic skills and knowledge by attending local and international workshops and conferences.
Limitation in modern medicine to cure does not limit a physician’s role to care and comfort. Providing the best medical care to her patient is Dr Yong’s main consideration.
